Whilst the attention of European fund managers has been focused on the proposed Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, those with US investors should not lose sight of developments in the United States. Like the European Directive, draft legislation which is now before Congress could affect managers of any type of venture or buyout fund. However - in case there is any doubt - the US proposals are nowhere near as draconian or wide-ranging as those published by the European Commission in April.
